Definition and Aims
of palliative Care
Palliative Care ...
- Shifts the emphasis of health care from just curing to a more dedicated focus on the improvement in quality of life for the patient
- Offers a support system to help families cope during the patient's illness and in their own eventual bereavement
- Affirms life and regards dying as a normal process in the cycle of life
- Provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms
- Integrates the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care
- Provides any support that may help the patient live an active life as much as desired and possible
- Intends neither to hasten nor postpone death
In this sense I have committed myself to this task with empathy and commitment.
